In short
Reddit's verdict on Courchevel is mostly positive: the skiing in the 3 Vallées is excellent, but accommodation and food are among the most expensive in the Alps. Lift passes are standard for a major resort, at 84.20 € a day for the 3 Vallées in high season 2026-2027. Courchevel 1850 has the palace hotels and starred restaurants; Le Praz and La Tania are quieter villages on the same lifts.
Is Courchevel worth it, according to Reddit?
Mostly yes, with a clear condition: Reddit users rate the skiing highly and the prices harshly. Across the nine threads we read in r/ski, r/skithealps, r/travel and r/EuropeTravelHacks, almost nobody criticises the slopes. The criticism is about cost, the showier side of Courchevel 1850, and whether beginners get value from a ski area this large.
The praise is short and direct. "Courchevel is amazing. One of the best ski resorts in the world, although expensive," wrote a commenter in an r/ski thread comparing it with Val d'Isère. The caveat is just as clear: commenters describe it as the most exclusive resort in the Alps, with prices to match, in an r/ski thread about restaurant bookings.
The real question is who it suits and where to stay. Below, we check the recurring points against official sources for 2026-2027.
Is the skiing in Courchevel as good as Reddit says?
Yes, and the official figures explain why. Courchevel has 150 km of marked pistes of its own, according to Courchevel Tourism, and sits inside Les 3 Vallées: 600 km of slopes, 347 runs and 155 lifts, with a top altitude of 3,230 m and 85% of the area above 1,800 m. The tourist office also counts more than 2,100 snow cannons across the 3 Vallées.
The recurring Reddit debate is snow reliability. In an r/skithealps thread about a Christmas trip, several commenters argued that Val Thorens is more snow-sure because of its altitude, while others pushed back. Both camps miss a practical point: a 3 Vallées pass bought in Courchevel covers Val Thorens too, so staying in Courchevel does not lock you out of the higher slopes. Our guide to skiing from Courchevel to Val Thorens explains the route.
How expensive is Courchevel in 2026-2027?
Lift passes are the one cost you can check precisely, and they are lower than many Reddit users assume. The official ticket office, skipasscourchevel.com, run by the lift operator S3V, publishes these adult prices for high season, from 19 December 2026 to 9 April 2027:
| Pass (adult, high season) | 1 day | 6 days |
|---|---|---|
| Courchevel Valley | 77 € | 385 € |
| Les 3 Vallées | 84.20 € | 421 € |
| Minipass Courchevel (beginner areas only) | 39.50 € | Not applicable |
In low season, from 5 to 18 December 2026 and from 10 to 18 April 2027, the six-day adult 3 Vallées pass falls to 378.50 €, according to Les 3 Vallées. The ticket office also offers 20% off a Saturday 3 Vallées day pass bought online by 11.59 pm the Friday before. Full details are in our 2026-2027 season dates and lift pass guide.
Where Reddit is right is everything around the pass. Commenters in r/skithealps call Courchevel one of the most expensive places to stay in the Alps, and an r/ski user reported being quoted 350 € per restaurant booking by a concierge. Those are user reports rather than published rates, but the advice that followed was sensible: look at menus online and call the restaurant yourself. Our Courchevel restaurants guide lists addresses by village.
Is Courchevel 1850 worth the premium over the other villages?
Only if you want to be at the centre of things. Reddit is fairly consistent here: 1850 is described as glitzy and expensive, while the lower villages get warmer reviews for value. One commenter in the same r/ski thread found the food options in 1550 better, with fewer choices at more realistic prices.
Courchevel Tourism says something similar in its own words: it describes Courchevel Village as often chosen for its calm atmosphere, affordable accommodation and direct proximity to the ski area. Here is how the five ski villages compare, with altitudes from the tourist office and the views that come up on Reddit:
| Village | Altitude | What Reddit users say |
|---|---|---|
| Courchevel 1850 | 1,850 m | Lively, glamorous, the priciest base |
| Moriond (1650) | 1,650 m | Quieter and "a lot nicer" for some; one commenter flags lift bottlenecks |
| Courchevel Village (1550) | 1,550 m | Better value for food |
| La Tania | 1,400 m | A favourite for budget trips, quiet and sheltered |
| Le Praz | 1,300 m | Recommended by couples and families who stayed there |
Wherever you stay, a free shuttle links the villages in winter, and the lifts connect them during the day. Our Courchevel villages guide goes into each one, and the Courchevel 1850 guide covers the main village in detail.
Are the lift queues and crowds a problem?
They were rarely the main complaint in the threads we read; timing was. The busiest weeks follow the French school holidays: Christmas runs from 19 December 2026 to 4 January 2027, and the staggered February holidays cover 6 February to 7 March 2027, according to service-public.gouv.fr. Travelling between 4 January and 5 February avoids them all.
Changeover day is the other pressure point. Several Reddit users explain that most self-catered apartments in the 3 Vallées rent Saturday to Saturday in peak season. One r/travel poster reported a 7 to 8 hour drive from Milan on a Saturday, against about 5 hours on other days.
The lift company has also upgraded key links. The new Chenus gondola in Courchevel 1850 carries up to 10 people per cabin and 2,400 people per hour, replacing a lift that ran for 55 years, according to the official ticket office. For 2026-2027, Les 3 Vallées announces a 5 million euro refurbishment of the La Tania gondola, with new eight-seat panoramic cabins. For quieter weeks, see our guide to the best time to ski in Courchevel.
Who is Courchevel for, and who should skip it?
Courchevel suits confident skiers who want the 3 Vallées on their doorstep, and visitors who value service, dining and atmosphere as much as the pistes. It is a harder sell for complete beginners on a tight budget.
In an r/skithealps thread about a group trip, opinions split, and a local preferred Courchevel's atmosphere to purpose-built Val Thorens. In a thread about a December group trip, a commenter pointed out that beginner and intermediate groups may only use a small share of the 3 Vallées, so the large-area premium buys less for them.
- Good fit: intermediate and advanced skiers, mixed groups where some do not ski much, families wanting ski schools and easy village life, couples on a special trip.
- Weaker fit: first-timers counting every euro, and groups who want loud, late après-ski above all, which several Reddit users associate more with Val Thorens.
Beginners are not ignored, though. Courchevel Tourism lists Easy Rider areas with covered magic carpets, and the Minipass gives access to them at 39.50 € a day. For non-skiing days, see things to do in Courchevel, and for a side-by-side view, Courchevel vs Méribel.
What does Reddit get wrong or out of date about Courchevel?
A few points repeat without being quite right for 2026-2027. Here is what we checked:
| What Reddit says | What the official sources say |
|---|---|
| A 5 or 6 day 3 Vallées pass costs about 409 € (a January 2026 post) | For 2026-2027, the six-day adult 3 Vallées pass is 421 € in high season and 378.50 € in low season |
| Courchevel is split between 1650 and 1850 | Courchevel Tourism states that all the villages are connected by slopes and lifts, with a free winter shuttle between them |
| Stay in Val Thorens if you want the high slopes | The 3 Vallées pass sold in Courchevel covers Val Thorens; 85% of the area is above 1,800 m |
| Courchevel is not for beginners | There are dedicated Easy Rider beginner areas and a 39.50 € Minipass, though Reddit's point on value still stands |
Reddit is most useful on lived experience, such as where to eat for less, and least reliable on prices, which change every season.
Is it worth hiring a photographer for a Courchevel trip?
It is worth it when the trip marks an occasion and you want everyone in the pictures, including the person who usually holds the phone. Riva Photography Courchevel works as a private photography agency in Courchevel and a handful of other exclusive Alpine resorts, and its photographers ski, so a session can follow you from the chalet to the slopes. Sessions start at 640 € for one hour and 30 photos, with longer options on our pricing page and ideas on the ski photoshoot page. For sessions on the slopes, the photographer's lift pass is added at the public price. A first selection of edited photos arrives within 48 hours, usually while you are still in the resort, and the full gallery within 7 days.
If you are coming this winter, send your dates and village to Riva Photography Courchevel on WhatsApp at +33 6 30 85 92 05, or through the contact section.

Frequently asked questions
Is Courchevel worth it according to Reddit?
Mostly yes. In the Reddit threads we read from 2025 and 2026, users praise the skiing but warn that accommodation and food are among the priciest in the Alps. Several recommend staying in Courchevel Village, La Tania or Le Praz for better value.
How much is a Courchevel lift pass in 2026-2027?
According to the official ticket office, an adult high season day pass costs 77 € for the Courchevel Valley and 84.20 € for Les 3 Vallées. A six-day adult 3 Vallées pass costs 421 € in high season and 378.50 € in low season.
Which Courchevel village is cheapest to stay in?
Courchevel Tourism describes Courchevel Village as often chosen for its affordable accommodation, and Reddit users also recommend La Tania and Le Praz for budget trips. All five villages share the same lift network and a free winter shuttle.
Is Courchevel good for beginners?
It can be. Courchevel has Easy Rider beginner areas with covered magic carpets and a Minipass at 39.50 € a day. Reddit users point out that beginners use only a small part of the 3 Vallées, so the full pass offers them less value.
When is Courchevel least crowded in 2026-2027?
Outside French school holidays. Christmas holidays run from 19 December 2026 to 4 January 2027 and the February holidays from 6 February to 7 March 2027, so the weeks between 4 January and 5 February are among the calmest.
