Why is La Saulire the classic high-altitude photo spot?
La Saulire gives the widest view in Courchevel: Les 3 Vallées describes a 360-degree panorama from 2,740 m that includes La Grande Casse (3,855 m) and the Vanoise glaciers. It is also the easiest summit to reach for non-skiers.
From Courchevel you take the Saulire cable car; from Méribel, the Saulire Express gondola or the Pas du Lac gondola. A non-skiing partner can come up with the Les 3 Vallées pedestrian pass, which costs 31.40 € per day for winter 2026-2027. At this altitude the wind can be strong: plan gloves you can take off quickly and a warm layer to remove just before the picture.
Which viewpoint shows Mont Blanc from Courchevel?
Le Signal, above Courchevel Moriond, is the viewpoint Les 3 Vallées singles out for Mont Blanc: at 2,250 m it offers "a sumptuous view of Mont Blanc rising majestically in the distance", along with the Brèche de la Portetta and rock towers that Les 3 Vallées compares to the Dolomites.
You reach it on skis with the Chapelets or Signal chairlifts from Courchevel Moriond. Moriond is known as the sunny side of the resort, which Les 3 Vallées calls "sunny Moriond", with wide, accessible slopes. That makes Le Signal a good choice for families and for skiers who want relaxed action shots rather than steep terrain. Mont Blanc only appears on clear days, so keep this spot for a day with a good forecast.
Where can you photograph both the Courchevel and Méribel valleys?
The Col de la Loze, at 2,304 m, sits on the ridge between the two valleys, and Les 3 Vallées describes its panorama as stretching over both Courchevel and Méribel. From Courchevel you reach it with the Dou des Lanches chairlift; from Méribel, with the Loze chairlift.
For non-skiers who cross-country ski, Courchevel Tourisme lists a Col de la Loze Nordic trail at around 2,300 m, which it calls the highest Nordic trail in the Alps, reached with the Chenus gondola, for which a lift pass is needed. It is an unusual setting for a portrait in ski touring or cross-country clothes.
Is the Altiport a good place for photos?
Yes, and it is one of the few high spots you can reach and leave on foot, which makes it useful at sunset when the lifts have closed. The Altiport sits on the plateau above Courchevel 1850, surrounded by open snowfields and chalets.
Courchevel Tourisme lists an easy, green-rated winter walk called "The heights of Courchevel 1850": about 3 km and 1 hour 15 minutes, starting from the Altiport and descending past the Pralong farm and along the Zen slope to the Bellecôte run and the resort centre, with "amazing panoramic views and beautiful chalets on the side of the slopes". It is open from 1 December to 30 April, conditions permitting. Cross-country skiers can also follow the red Courchevel 1850 to Méribel Altiport trail.
Respect the airfield itself: photograph from the paths and the slopes, never from the runway area.
What are the best photo spots in the villages?
In the villages, the best pictures come from the snow fronts in the morning, when skiers set off, and from the evening lights after dark. Courchevel is made up of six villages: Courchevel 1850, Courchevel Moriond, Courchevel Village, Courchevel Le Praz, Courchevel La Tania and Courchevel Saint-Bon.
Courchevel 1850: La Croisette and the Forum
La Croisette is the meeting point of Courchevel 1850, where the ski pass office stands and the Verdons gondola leaves from the snow front. For a family picture in full ski gear before the first run, it is the obvious choice. The Forum, on place du Forum, houses an indoor ice rink open from 11 December 2026 to 18 April 2027 on set afternoons and evenings, a useful plan B on a stormy day.
The floodlit sledge run to Courchevel Village
Courchevel Tourisme lists a 2 km sledge run from Courchevel 1850, under the arrival of the Praz gondola, down to Courchevel Village at the Grangettes gondola. It is lit along its whole length and open daily until 7:15 pm in season, for holders of a ski or pedestrian pass. Helmets are mandatory and children under 6 are not allowed. Dusk on the sledge run gives lively, unposed group pictures.
Courchevel Le Praz: the ski jumps, the lake and the forest
Le Praz is the most photogenic village on a cloudy day. Courchevel Tourisme describes it as bordered by forests, with Olympic ski jumps and a lake close to the centre. The jumps were built for the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, when Courchevel hosted the ski jumping and Nordic combined events. Snow-covered trees keep contrast when the summits disappear in cloud.
Where can you find wild winter scenery without skiing?
Lac de la Rosière, reached from Courchevel Moriond, is the wildest setting within walking distance, but it asks for some effort. Courchevel Tourisme lists a 3.5 km snowshoe loop rated red (difficult), with 180 m of climb and an average of 1 hour 45 minutes, passing beneath the Dent du Villard. It starts from the Roc Sabal shuttle stop or on foot from Moriond, and is open from 1 December to 30 April, conditions permitting.
For a portrait session, this works best for active couples who would go snowshoeing anyway. For families with small children, the forest paths around Le Praz are easier.
How do you get the most out of these spots with a photographer?
Choose two or three spots that are close together rather than five across the ski area, and match them to the light. A two-hour session might start on the snow front, ride up to La Saulire and finish with a portrait on a terrace. A half day can add Le Signal or the Col de la Loze on a clear day.
Sunset in Courchevel is around 4:50 pm in mid-December and close to 6 pm in mid-February, according to sunrise-sunset.org, while most lifts close in the late afternoon. Summit sessions therefore happen earlier in the day, and sunset sessions at village level or at the Altiport. Prices, ski pass costs and the way a session runs are covered in our guide to hiring a photographer in Courchevel, and couples planning a proposal will find timing advice in How to Propose in Courchevel.
