La Tania, Courchevel: A Guide to the Quiet Forest Village (2026-2027)

In short

La Tania is one of the five ski villages of Courchevel, set in a forest clearing at 1,400 m. It opened in 1990 and was designed to blend into the landscape. A gondola from the village links it to the Courchevel ski area and Les 3 Vallées. For 2026-2027 its lifts run from 5 December 2026 to 11 April 2027.

Where is La Tania and what is it like?

La Tania is a ski village in the commune of Courchevel, in the Savoie department of the French Alps. The town hall lists it at 1,400 m, the fourth of Courchevel's five ski villages by altitude, between Courchevel Village and Le Praz. Oxygène ski school places it between Courchevel and Méribel, within the Les 3 Vallées ski area.

Courchevel Tourism describes it as a village designed from the beginning to blend into the landscape, with simple architecture, a family-friendly atmosphere, a discreet location and a true village feel. The tourist office booking platform sums it up in one phrase: in the heart of the forest. Where Courchevel 1850 is the busy centre of the resort, La Tania is the village people choose for trees, quiet and an easy pace. Our Courchevel villages guide compares it with the others.

When was La Tania built?

La Tania is the youngest of the Courchevel villages. The ESF La Tania listing on the Courchevel Tourism website states that the ski school has been established in La Tania since the resort opened in 1990. Oxygène, another ski school working in the village, describes La Tania as built for the 1992 Winter Olympics, which were held in Albertville and across the Savoie; the France.fr history of Courchevel confirms that Courchevel hosted the ski jumping and Nordic combined events of those Games at Le Praz.

That recent origin explains its character. Rather than growing from an old hamlet, it was planned as a single, compact village among the trees.

How do you ski from La Tania?

The gondola is the village's main link to the slopes. Courchevel Tourism states that La Tania has direct access to the Courchevel ski area and to Les 3 Vallées without a car, and Oxygène ski school notes a gentle green run, Plan Fontaine, that descends through the forest back to the village.

For winter 2026-2027, Les 3 Vallées announces a 5 million euro refurbishment of the La Tania gondola: its 52 cabins are replaced by new eight-seater panoramic cabins, on a lift that carries around 400,000 passengers a year.

From the Courchevel ski area you can reach the whole of Les 3 Vallées, which lists 600 km of interconnected slopes, 169 lifts and a top altitude of 3,230 m. Les 3 Vallées adds that 85% of the area lies above 1,800 m, which matters when you stay at 1,400 m: the snow higher up is within easy reach, even when the village itself is lower.

Which ski schools teach in La Tania?

Two schools are clearly documented in the village:

Check each school's own dates and age rules before booking, as they can change from one season to the next. For family planning, see our guide to Courchevel with kids.

Is La Tania good for families?

Yes, by the tourist office's own description. Courchevel Tourism describes La Tania as human-scaled, calm and easy to navigate, with accommodation close to the slopes, with a family-friendly atmosphere. Courchevel as a whole holds the Famille Plus label, which commits the resort to a personalised welcome for families, activities for all ages and prices adapted to each age group, and the label appears on the La Tania page of the tourist office.

The village also has a starting point for cross-country skiing. Courchevel Tourism lists the Circuit des Teppes, on the route de Jilliard, among the access points to its Nordic area, which offers more than 50 km of free, marked and groomed trails across the resort.

What can you do in La Tania besides skiing?

In winter, the Nordic trails are the most obvious option for non-skiers and mixed groups. Courchevel Tourism notes that some Nordic loops use lifts and need a pedestrian pass, while the trails themselves are free. In summer, the tourist office describes the surrounding forest as terrain for hiking, mountain biking and nature activities, with routes on foot or by bike that start right from the edge of the village.

For shops, restaurants and evening life on a bigger scale, a free shuttle bus serves all the villages of Courchevel in winter and summer, with real-time stops in the Mobilité Courchevel app. Our things to do in Courchevel guide covers the wider resort.

When are the La Tania lifts open in 2026-2027?

La Tania opens a day after the higher sectors and closes a week earlier, according to Les 3 Vallées.

If your trip falls in the last week of the season, you can still ski from higher up in Courchevel, but not straight from the village.

How do you get to La Tania?

La Tania is reached through Moûtiers, like the rest of Courchevel. Courchevel Tourism describes motorway and dual carriageway to Moûtiers, then about 30 minutes up to the resort. Moûtiers is also the nearest railway station, with taxis and Altibus coaches from Moûtiers, Chambéry, Lyon and Geneva. The tourist office gives road distances of 95 km from Chambéry airport, 125 km from Grenoble, 176 km from Lyon-Saint-Exupéry and 179 km from Geneva.

Once there, Courchevel Tourism stresses that you do not need a car to ski: the village has direct access to the ski area, and the free shuttles connect it with the other villages.

Where can you stay in La Tania?

Courchevel Tourism's booking platform lists accommodation in La Tania, and its reservation team answers on +33 (0)4 79 08 88 39. For 2026-2027, the Les 3 Vallées press guide announces a new ski-in, ski-out property in the village, the Bârma Hotel and Spa, with an emphasis on wellness.

La Tania suits families who want slopes close by and a calm base, couples who prefer forest to nightlife, and Nordic skiers. Those who want the main shopping street, palace hotels and the busiest après-ski will be happier in Courchevel 1850.
